North Olmsted Yoga Studio A New HoriZen offers yoga, health and wellness

NORTH OLMSTED, Ohio - After 20 years with the City of North Olmsted, most recently as Senior Center Administrator, Jackie Chavez-Anderson is ready for the next chapter of her career.

As a certified 500-hour yoga teacher and 600-hour Ayurveda health educator and Reiki master, the lifelong resident of North Olmsted recently announced the opening of A New HoriZen, which will take place on Sunday (8/1) at his studio location at Bartlo Plaza.

"This has been in the works for a while," said Chavez-Anderson. “Having a studio space in North Olmsted was very important to me, so I searched until I found something that was perfect. I think the location is really good. It has a wonderful atmosphere. "

A New HoriZen offers a variety of yoga classes for all interests and abilities as well as personalized holistic health and wellness offers such as Reiki and Ayurveda. The site also has products for sale such as meditation beads, crystals, essential oils, yoga-inspired jewelry, and yoga mats.

"The room will allow me to do what I set out to do," said Chavez-Anderson. “It will not just be a yoga studio, but a multi-dimensional, multi-faceted, healthy and holistic space with Ayurveda, which you don't see too often, and Reiki too. It's a kind of three-in-one studio. "

For those unfamiliar with Ayurveda, the sister science of yoga has been practiced for more than 5,000 years. Its goal is to recognize and promote the balance of mind and body and to make conscious lifestyle decisions that optimize individual health.

Given her relationship with seniors, Chavez-Anderson hopes to see some familiar faces at A New HoriZen.

"I'm going to do chair yoga that is suitable for everyone," said Chavez-Anderson. "It's perfect for seniors who want to stretch a little more."

While opening her own business was on Chavez-Anderson's radar, the pandemic allowed her not only to expand her education, but also to give her the right opportunity to achieve her dream.

"The room feels right, the timing feels right," said Chavez-Anderson. “I just can't explain it any other way than feeling like I'm where I should be at this point in my life.

“It feels good to help others. I think people look to a future where they will be healthier and take care of themselves as they get through such a difficult year. Now we are looking inward again, looking at ourselves and our health. It's more important now than ever. "
